The front of this hoodie features a large embroidered rendition of a Mi’kmaq Warrior. The Sma’kin’sk Flag, created by Raven Algwimu of Elsipogtog, was inspired by Karonniaktajeh Louis Hall’s original design of the Mohawk Warrior Flag. The Warrior Flag has become a symbol of Indigenous Resistance since its creation from coast to coast. The Mi’kmaq warrior society has adopted and flown the flag during all front-line resistance movements against the Canadian government, starting in the year 1999 with the Esgenoôpetitj lobster dispute.
The back feature two graphics of a Mi’kmaq Woman and Man, created by Indigenous Artist Raven Algwimu of Elsipogtog. Raven has researched extensively, spending hours reading through archives and academic literature, looking through hundreds of Mi’kmaq artifacts, and cross-examining her research with early depictions of Mi’kmaq people. These depictions are Raven’s final rendition of an L’nu man and woman. The back of this shirt features graphics of designs Raven found on a peaked cap from the 1700’s.
